Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman participated on Wednesday, June 20, 2024, in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region in Vienna. The meeting was held as part of the Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) under the chairmanship of the Austrian Minister for European and International Affairs, Alexander Schallenberg.

The Republic of Croatia participates in two EU macro-regions, thereby nurturing its Central European and Mediterranean dimensions, to which it belongs. Croatia successfully completed its chairmanship of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region a month ago at the Šibenik Forum and handed it over to Greece.

One of the main topics of today's meeting was a discussion on how macro-regions can contribute to the EU enlargement process. Additionally, an important topic was the issue of security in the Danube region, with a special focus on the situation in Ukraine, which is one of the members of this macro-region.

Grlić Radman emphasized the need to harness the potential of macro-regional cooperation to promote reforms and the enlargement process, which we highlighted during our chairmanship of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region. He reiterated Croatia's comprehensive support for Ukraine, as well as for the enlargement process, which remains a key investment in European security and stability.

Croatia knows from its own experience, and in ten days we will mark the 11th anniversary of our membership in the EU, how membership strengthens the internal stability and resilience of candidate countries, and thus regional security and stability in general.
