Minister Grlić Radman attends academic conference on Bosanska Posavina

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Saturday attended an academic conference titled “Bosanska Posavina: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”, organized by the Sociocultural Platform for Bosanska Posavina.

Addressing the event, Grlić Radman underscored the strong impact that the Croats of Bosanska Posavina had had on the Croatian people and culture. “The Croats of Bosanska Posavina are an extremely important part of the Croat nation. Their contribution to the political, social and cultural development of their two homelands – Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina – is immeasurable,” he said, highlighting the importance of Ivo Gregurević for Croatia’s theatre and film and the Begić brothers for preserving the authentic music of the Posavina region.

The minister said he strongly supported the efforts to put Posavina’s original music on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage, adding that his ministry fully backed the initiative.

Grlić Radman also reflected on the suffering of Posavina’s people during the Homeland War. “The Croats of Bosanska Posavina are among those who suffered the most as it was here that one of the hardest battles was fought, taking away their loved ones and leaving them displaced across Croatia and the world,” he said, emphasizing that in spite of that the conference was a testament to the Posavina Croats’ strength and vitality. Lastly, Grlić Radman underlined that Croatia would continue to support Croats’ legitimate requests for a true equality in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
