Minister Grabar-Kitarović met with Canadian Senate’s Speaker Nöel A. Kinsella and Senator Gerald J. Comeau

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met on Monday, 28 August 2006, with the Speaker of the Canadian Senate Nöel A. Kinsella and Senator Gerald J. Comeau

Minister Grabar-Kitarović and Speaker Kinsella pointed out that bilateral relations between Croatia and Canada are good and friendly, with the possibility of further improvement on the bilateral level.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović informed the Canadian representatives of the current political situation in Croatia and Croatia’s progress in the EU accession process. She also expressed her satisfaction with numerous other areas of co-operation between the two countries, as well as with Canada’s support for Croatia within the Peace Building Commission. In that regard, she informed them in detail of Croatia’s participation in 12 UN and NATO peacekeeping missions, and about her visit to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović also expressed the Croatian side’s interest in resolving the existing issues with Canada’s visa regime for Croatian citizens. Speaker Kinsella expressed his understanding and stated that Canada never had problems with the citizens of Croatia. He also stated his readiness for dialogue in finding a mutually acceptable solution to the issue.

Minister Grabar-Kitarović took the opportunity to announce her official visit to Canada.
