Minister Grabar-Kitarović in Toronto, during official visit to Canada

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović is visiting Toronto 23 November 2006, during her official visit to Canada

During her visit to Toronto, Minister Grabar-Kitarović met with the representatives of the Canada-Croatia Chamber of Economy, one of the largest Canadian chambers, founded in 1995. The meeting also saw other associations, as well as parsons, businessmen, political and other officials belonging to the Croatian community in Toronto, the largest Croatian community in Canada.

The meeting focused on the Euro-Atlantic integration processes that Croatia is a part of and their effects on the economy. Minister Grabar-Kitarović informed her collocutors about the reforms in the field of justice and state administration, as well as the activities in combating corruption, noting the National Program for Combating Corruption. As regards the possibilities of investment in Croatia, Minister Grabar-Kitarović presented Hitro.hr, the Croatian Government’s projects aimed at reducing the administrative obstacles for investors.

At the University of Toronto, Minister Grabar-Kitarović held a lecture for the students of the Munk Center for International Studies, specialised in studies on political and democratic processes in South Eastern Europe. In her lecture, Minister Grabar-Kitarović focused on Croatia’s foreign policy, presenting its priorities and explaining Croatia’s participation in the current global processes. Minister Grabar-Kitarović said that, 15 years since its gaining of independence, Croatia has been recognised by the international community as a factor of stability in South Eastern Europe, as well as a spearhead, a model, and a positive example for the SEE countries in progress in the Euro-Atlantic processes and activities directed at the development of co-operation in the region. It is Croatia’s interests, said Minister Grabar-Kitarović, that the SEE countries have a European perspective, based on individual achievements, as a pledge of security and prosperity of this part of Europe.
