Minister Gordan Jandroković sent letter to NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković sent s letter to NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, informing him that Croatia has accepted the invitation for opening accession negotiations with NATO

The letter reads that NATO membership is one of Croatia’s basic foreign policy priorities and that Croatia already acts as if it were a NATO member. Croatia’s contribution to NATO’s missions has been recognised and is appreciated. The same goes for our efforts to conduct reforms and adopt NATO standards, states the letter.

“I am convinced that the accession negotiations will confirm my country’s readiness and ability to assume the political and military responsibility stemming from the North Atlantic Treaty and the Study on NATO Enlargement”, said Minister Jandroković in his letter.

Conclusively, the letter states the conviction in a successful closing of Croatia’s NATO membership negotiations, as well as the ratification process in the members’ parliaments.
