Minister Gordan Jandroković received UNICEF Representative Judita Reichenberg

He added that Croatia actively contributes to the activities of UNICEF’s Executive Board, to which it has been elected for the first time. This represents a new opportunity to present UNICEF’s new functioning model in Croatia and strengthen our role in the protection of children’s rights in the world, said Minister Jandroković.

The meeting noted the successful unfolding of UNICEF’s 2003 transition model, preparing Croatia for a future donor role.

It was agreed that the Action Plan between the Croatian Government and UNICEF is in full accordance with the measures from Croatia’s National Plan for Children, based on the recommendations by the Committee for Children’s Rights and the UN’s document “A world fit for children”. The Croatian side welcomed the harmonization of said document with the Government’s 2006-2013 Strategic Development Framework, especially in areas pertaining to child victims of poverty and violence.

The two collocutors exchanged opinions on UNICEF’s aid program for the children of Darfur, welcomed by the Croatian side. Both agreed that UNICEF’s new direction as regards Croatia’s aid for children in other countries coincides with the end of Croatia’s transition from an international assistance recipient to a donor to the UN funds and projects.

Special satisfaction was expressed over the new and unique model of UNICEF’s functioning, recognized in the world as the Croatian experience, in which UNICEF in Croatia is self-financing itself through citizens’ and business sector’s donations and contributions.

UNICEF Representative Reichenberg presented to Minister Jandroković UNICEF’s publications distributed to the Croatian schools as a part of the “Protecting Children Against Violence” Program, which Minister Jandroković expressed his satisfaction with.
