Minister Gordan Jandroković received the representatives of the Serbia-Croatia Friendship Group of the National Assembly...

Minister Jandroković said that the visit of the Serbia-Croatia Friendship Group confirmed the strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, adding that progress was also evident in the area of economic, judiciary, tourist, cultural and police cooperation. He concluded that the Republic of Croatia wants to develop good neighbourly relations with Serbia with a view to solving the remaining outstanding issues and strengthening the stability in South East Europe. In this regard, he pointed out that the rivalry of the two states should transform into partnership relations to the benefit of both countries as well as their citizens.

Discussing the status of minorities in the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Serbia, Minister Jandroković expressed his belief that in accordance with the bilateral Agreement on the Protection of National Minorities, the Croatian national minority will be able to exercise all the rights that the Serbian minority has already been granted in Croatia.

Minister Jandroković informed the members of the Serbia-Croatia Friendship Group that Croatia was oriented towards a European future, and that it will continue to promote even better relations with Serbia. The cooperation of our two countries, underlined the Minister, is of the utmost importance for the region of South East Europe. Therefore, the Republic of Croatia supports the European prospects of the Republic of Serbia in the political and technical sense.

He also welcomed the decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia to submit the request for obtaining the status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union and the EU’s decision to liberalise of the visa regime for the Republic of Serbia, and unblocking of the Temporary Trade Agreement. He added that the process of accession to the European Union must be based on proper fulfilment of the set criteria.

The Serbia- Croatia Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia was established in 2009 and it consists of 18 members.
