Minister Gordan Jandroković received Slovakian Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčak, who was on official visit to Croatia

Ministers Jandroković and Lajčak signed the Memorandum of Agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovakia on Cooperation in Diplomatic Training

Ministers Jandroković and Lajčak signed the Memorandum of Agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovakia on Cooperation in Diplomatic Training.

The collocutors expressed satisfaction with the two countries’ excellent, friendly and partnership relations, as manifested though regular highest-level visits. They especially pointed out the substantial cooperation between the two ministries of foreign affairs. Minister Jandroković thanked the Slovakian Government and Minister Lajčak personally for their contribution and effort during the process of Croatia’s EU accession, as well as for the willingness to share the associated experiences.

Talking about Croatia’s negotiations process, Minister Jandroković informed Minister Lajčak about the actualities of Croatia’s EU accession and the communication strategy as a preparation for the membership referendum. Minister Lajčak offered Slovakia’s assistance in preparing the Croatian institutions for efficient functioning within the EU.

Ministers Jandroković and Lajčak also talked about intensifying the economic cooperation, especially in the energy sector. They commended the initiatives to strengthen the cooperation on local and regional level as well, and expressed satisfaction with the growing number of Slovakian tourists visiting Croatia despite the economic crisis.

The collocutors agreed that the economic relations and trade, which totals €250 million, show room for further improvement, and expressed a wish for their raising to a higher level. As for the Croatian companies, there is a strong interest for a more intense appearance on and investment in the Slovakian market.

They also exchanged opinions about the current political and security situation in the region of South Eastern Europe. They agreed that Croatia’s accession negotiations hold a strategic importance for other countries in the region as well and that their unhindered continuation is important not only for the stability and future of the region, but for the building of the European project as a whole.

During the official visit to Croatia, Minister Lajčak also met with Minister of Science, Education and Sport Radovan Fuchs, with whom he signed the Program of Cooperation between the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Slovakia for the 2010-2013 period.
