Minister Gordan Jandroković received Resident UNDP Representative Yuri Afanasiev

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković received 9 May 2008 the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to the Republic of Croatia, Yuri Afanasiev

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the co-operation between Croatian Government and the UNDP Office in Croatia. Resident Representative Afanasiev especially commended the joint action of collecting illegal firearms, describing it as one of the most successful actions of that kind in the history of UN. He pointed out that the action, carried out in a time when Croatia is approaching the Euro-Atlantic integration membership, was exceptionally well timed.

Resident Representative Afanasiev also emphasized the good co-operation among the varieties segments of the Croatian societies – police, Homeland War veterans, women’s associations and church communities, which also took part in the action with their appeals. The project was co-led by the UNDP Office and the Croatian Ministry of Interior.

Minister Jandroković pointed out Croatia’s openness and readiness to continue co-operating with the UNDP, especially in the area of development assistance and destruction of arms surplus.
