Minister Gordan Jandroković received on official visit Latvian Foreign Minister Māris Riekstiņs

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković received on 19 February 2008 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Māris Riekstiņs, who is from 19 to 20 February 2008 on an official visit to the Republic of Croatia

The two ministers exchanged opinions about the two countries’ bilateral relations, describing them as very good, friendly, with no outstanding issues, and with room for further overall improvement, especially in economy.

Minister Jandroković and Minister Riekstiņs also talked about Croatia’s approaching the Euro-Atlantic integration, with Minister Jandroković reporting in detail about the achievements so far in approaching the EU, as well as about Croatia’s dedication in meeting the benchmarks and conducting the key reforms. Minister Jandroković expressed special gratitude for the support Latvia is showing Croatia in the realisation of its NATO accession, pointing out Croatia’s readiness to receive the invitation to join NATO at the Bucharest Summit in April 2008.

The two ministers also discussed the current state of affairs in the region, namely in light of Kosovo’s declaration of independence. They emphasized the importance of establishing lasting peace and sustainable security and stability in the region, expressing conviction that the further Euro-Atlantic perspective of its countries is the best framework for solving the rest of outstanding issues in South Eastern Europe.
