Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction over the first official visit to Croatia by an Algerian foreign minister. Both sides agreed that the two countries’ bilateral relations were very good and with no outstanding issues

Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction over the first official visit to Croatia by an Algerian foreign minister. Both sides agreed that the two countries’ bilateral relations were very good and with no outstanding issues.

The ministers concurred that today’s visit would contribute to the further strengthening of the two countries’ bilateral relations and cooperation, expressing readiness to intensify them in all the areas of mutual interest.

As an example of that they pointed out the today signed Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

They emphasized the need to intensify the talks between the two countries’ departmental representatives for the purposes of signing additional bilateral agreements and creating a legal basis for the strengthening of the overall relations.

Talking about the economic cooperation, the ministers pointed out the numerous potentials and stressed the need for more frequent contacts between the two countries’ businessmen. Minister Jandroković informed his counterpart about the growing interest among Croatian companies in doing business in Algeria, especially in regard to the projects on building and reconstructing the infrastructure and public facilities, as well as cooperation in shipbuilding, food, energy and electrical industry.

The ministers also commended the two countries’ multilateral cooperation, especially within the UN bodies, and exchanged opinions about the past activities within the Union for the Mediterranean.

Minister Jandroković informed Minister Medelci about the status of Croatia’s EU negotiations, expressing belief that the cooperation between the two countries would be further fortified once Croatia joined the EU.

Additionally, the ministers inquired about and exchanged views on the current events in the regions of Magreb, South Eastern Europe and the Near East.

Minister Medelci invited his Croatian colleague to pay an official visit to Algeria the following year, which Minister Jandroković accepted.
