Minister Gordan Jandroković on official visit to the Republic of Cyprus

The meeting between Minister Jandroković and his host, Cyprian Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou focused on the two countries’ bilateral relations, economic cooperation, European integration, and the current state of negotiations on the Cyprus issue

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković paid 23 and 24 November 2008 an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus.

The meeting between Minister Jandroković and his host, Cyprian Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou focused on the two countries’ bilateral relations, economic cooperation, European integration, and the current state of negotiations on the Cyprus issue.

It was concluded that the relations between Croatia and Cyprus are excellent, with both sides encouraging that the political consultations continue. Minister Jandroković thanked the Cyprian side for the support for Croatia’s EU accession process, pointing out that Cyprus’ experience could prove valuable in certain critical stages of the accession process.

There is room for intensifying the economic cooperation, namely in tourism, as evidenced by the great interest in the charter line introduced last year, that one a week flew from Cyprus’ capital to Dubrovnik. There is room for improvement in other branches of economy as well. Croatia has a trade surplus with Cyprus, while this year’s overall trade, in relation to the same period last year, is on the rise.

Ministers Jandroković and Kyprianou exchanged opinions about the state of affairs in South Eastern Europe, as well as about the current political situation in the world.

Minister Jandroković was also received by Cyprian President Demetris Chrystofias and President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian.

The exceptionally cordial, substantial, and friendly meeting discussed the parliamentary cooperation, while President Chrystofias informed Minister Jandroković in detail about the current state of the negotiations on the Cyprus issue, expressing full support for Croatia’s swift EU accession.
