Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković met 10 September 2008 with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Stuart E. Jones

Congratulating Mr. Jones on his appointment as the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Minister Jandroković pointed out that Croatia greatly appreciates the co-operation with the US, both on a bi- and multilateral level within NATO and the Security Council. He extended gratitude for the United States’ support for Croatia in its NATO accession process and expressed his conviction in a timely ratification of the Croatia’s NATO Accession Protocol by the US and other NATO members.

The meeting also discussed the visa system issues and the possibility of further developing the economic co-operation, along with the creation of preconditions for the avoidance of double taxation.

Noting the current situation in Georgia, Minister Jandroković reiterated Croatia’s position on the need for a swift and efficient implementation of the peace plan for solving the Georgian-Russian conflict. He also said Croatia supports the positions of NATO and the EU on said issue, along with a support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Georgia.

The collocutors also discussed the state of affairs in South Eastern Europe, agreeing that the Euro-Atlantic perspective of all countries in the region is the best way to achieve a lasting peace and stability in the area.
