The collocutors described the two countries’ relations as friendly and unburdened by outstanding issues. They expressed satisfaction with the strengthening of the cooperation between Croatia and Turkey on the bilateral, regional and multilateral level. They pointed out the importance of parliamentary cooperation in the context of the EU accession. They also commended the continuous and tight cooperation in the defence and military area.

The collocutors also talked about the strengthening of the economic cooperation, especially in the energy sector. Minister Jandroković expressed satisfaction with the growing interest of Turkish economic subjects in investing in Croatia. He also remarked there are numerous possibilities for further participation of Turkish businessmen in the privatization of tourism and shipbuilding. He also expressed satisfaction with the growing number of Turkish tourists in Croatia, adding he was convinced that the tourist cooperation, given the existing potential, would only continue to grow stronger.

The collocutors also touched upon the actualities in the region of South Eastern Europe, pointing out the cooperation between Croatia and Turkey in the most important regional issues and processes. Both ministers agreed that the current foreign trade totalling USD 400 million could be raised to a billion. Minister Davutoğlu said Turkey would support the extension of Croatian diplomat Hido Biščević’s mandate as the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council.

The ministers also discussed the cooperation in culture, pointing out the continued cooperation between the records offices and libraries, as well as the possibilities of visits by the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations to Zagreb and the Vučedol Culture Museum to Turkey. Minister Jandroković also expressed interest in establishing a Croatian language instructorship at the Hacettepe University in Ankara, offering the Croatian side’s assistance by way of the relevant literature, audiovisual and didactic material, as well as the possibility of awarding scholarships to students of the Croatian language in Turkey.
