Minister Gordan Jandroković held a lecture at the Chinese Institute for International Studies in Beijing...

In his lecture, Minister Jandroković reiterated the traditionally good and friendly relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Croatia. These relations have always been based on mutual respect and understanding, despite the different cultural, civilisation, and social systems. This mutual understanding is the foundation on which we have been building our relations in the past 18 years, since Croatia’s independence to date, said Minister Jandroković. He described last year’s visit of the President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao as historic and significant for opening a new chapter in the relations between the two states.

Speaking about the bilateral relations, Minister Jandroković emphasised that they were continuously enhanced in the areas of culture, education, science and sports, and he expressed the wish that the economic cooperation would reach the same level. In order to enable the development of cooperation in different areas, he reminded that Croatia and China signed all the necessary bilateral agreements to create the preconditions for this development.

Croatia is China’s largest trading partner in South East Europe, said Minister Jandroković. In this sense, he invited the Chinese businessmen to invest in the infrastructural projects in the Republic of Croatia.

Noting that both Croatia and China boast a rich cultural heritage and natural beauties, Minister Jandroković pointed out the potentials in strengthening cooperation in tourism. He also expressed his belief that this year’s EXPO organised in Shanghai, where Croatia will be presented, will be as successful as the Olympic Games two years ago.

Minister Jandroković also reminded that this year is the 30th anniversary of establishing friendly relations between Zagreb and Shanghai, and that the exceptionally good cooperation at local and regional level could serve as the symbol of tradition, friendship and understanding between two countries and their citizens.
