MFAEI’s reaction to Slovenia’s passing of Succession Fund Act

It is with a concern that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration notes that by passing the Succession Fund Act yesterday, the Republic of Slovenia continues with its practice of interfering with the private-legal relations between a commercial bank and its depositors

The MFAEI regretfully notes that with this act the Slovenian side continues to refuse solving the issue of the unpaid Croatian citizens’ foreign exchange deposits made in the Ljubljanska Bank and persists to transfer a commercial bank’s debts to its depositors onto all of the succession states, as if it were a matter of the former country’s debts, and not those of a specific commercial bank.

Due to the Ljubljanska Bank’s inability to pay off their foreign exchange savings, three of the Croatian depositors have sued the Republic of Slovenia before the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg.
