The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia is concerned about the developments in Egypt and holds that, presently, most important thing is to avoid further deterioration of the situation. Egyptian citizens, in ousting the previous regime in 2011, clearly expressed their desire to live in a democratically regulated state that protects the rights and provides for the needs of all its citizens. The elected government failed to address these aspirations. What gives rise to concern though is the fact that the attempt of citizens to build democratic society has been ended by the military intervention. Therefore, we call on all political and military actors to make additional effort to restart the temporarily suspended democratic processes. We shall continue to follow the situation in Egypt and in cooperation with our European partners provide assistance in relieving the present tensions.
