The visit to Shanghai, a city of 23 million people and gross domestic product of USD 320 billion in 2012, Minister Pusić started with a meeting with Deputy Mayor Jiang Zhuoqing.

Sixty per cent of Shanghai's GDP is made up of services, while the rest goes to finances, transport and trade. Shanghai, Zagreb’s twin town, is focused on research and development. For the past 30 years Zagreb and Shanghai have been intensively cooperating in education, science and technology.

Croatia has a very good location and shares similar interests with Shanghai – transport infrastructure and tourism, and that is why we see an opportunity for cooperation, Minister Pusić said, adding that she had the opportunity to experience the high quality of Chinese railways, namely the high-speed train that crosses the 1300-kilometre trip from Beijing to Shanghai in four hours, with an average speed of 300 km/h.

Pusić said that Croatian seaports can serve a much wider market than they do now and can be a gateway for markets of the Western Balkans and much wider in Central Europe. And as regards tourism, Chinese tourists can visit other countries from Croatia in a matter of few hours of driving.

Pusić is expected to visit the Pudong business centre tomorrow where she will meet with Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong, while Deputy Minister Joško Klisović will present Croatia's investment opportunities on Friday to representatives of the Shanghai business community.
