May 22nd 2009 marks 17th anniversary of Croatia’s UN membership

This indisputably significant date in the continuous process of international affirmation of Croatia’s foreign policy is best marked by Croatia’s second year of the Security Council member

Apart from the Security Council, Croatia is active in other UN bodies too, as well as in specialized organizations within the UN system, contributing with its active approach to meeting the modern-day challenges the international community is faced with, such as the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, financing of sustainable development, climate changes, the UN system reforms, etc.

In the past 17 years, Croatia has been a member of numerous ECOSOC commissions, and has grown from an object of international policy to an active participant in the resolving of international issues. Today, it equally participates with other countries in 13 UN peacekeeping missions throughout the world, and is a reliable regional partner in South Eastern Europe. The Croatian diplomacy is advocating such a reform of the UN system which would rise to the challenges and realities of a multi-polar world, as well as to the further democratization of international relations and strengthening of the international law.
