Lithuanian FM pays official visit to Croatia

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 6 June 2019 received on official visit her Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevičius.

The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations between Croatia and Lithuanian, as confirmed by the opening of residential embassies in Vilinus and Zagreb respectively.

Pejčinović Burić and Linkevičius discussed boosting cooperation in the sectors of economy, defence, energy, IT and tourism. Within NATO, Croatia and Lithuania jointly work on promoting regional, European and international security. Croatia is participating in NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence in Poland and Lithuania, whose goal is to strengthen security in the Alliance’s member states.

The talks also focused on Croatia’s preparations for the Council of the EU presidency as well as joining the Schengen Area, eurozone and OECD.

Pejčinović Burić and Linkevičius exchanged views on the topical European matters of joint interest: the new EU budget, Brexit and protection of the EU external borders.

They also discussed the situation in Southeast Europe and the importance of EU accession for the stability of SEE countries.

In regard to international and multilateral issues, the two ministers focused on the EU security and defence policy, the Eastern Partnership and fighting hybrid threats.
