Joint statement by foreign ministers of Albania, Croatia and Macedonia

Joint statement by foreign ministers of the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Macedonia on the occasion of the first anniversary of Signing the U.S.-Adriatic Charter of Partnership

We have achieved a lot in the past year. The Ohrid conference on the implementation of the Charter, and the first Partnership Commission meeting in Washington gave a powerful impetus to our individual and co-operative efforts in intensifying the all-encompassing internal reforms, contributing also to the security, stability and the wellbeing of the South East Europe and as quick as possible integration of the region countries into the European and Euro-Atlantic structures. We welcome the recent enlargement of the Alliance by 7 new members, which we see as the confirmation that NATO’s doors will stay open until European democracies, who share the same values, ideals and interests, become its members. The ambition of individual countries is to intensify and carry out all the necessary reforms, so as to start the negotiations as soon as possible and join the Alliance in the next round of enlargement. We would like to thank the U.S. once again for their support to our efforts in achieving the common goal – NATO membership, and confirm our determination to continue to co-operate in the spirit of the Charter even after our goal is achieved. New steps are ahead of us and we will discuss them the second Partnership Commission meeting, to be held 19-20 May 2004 in Skopje. Joint statement was signed, apart from the Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul, by Albanian Foreign Minister Kastriot Islami and Macedonian Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva.
