On 8 and 9 July, Deputy Minister Joško Klisović attended the informal meeting of the political directors of EU Member States, organized by Lithuanian presidency.

The meeting was an opportunity for discussion and exchange of views about a number of foreign-policy topics on EU agenda, in particular the global issues of climatic change, water security, energy diplomacy and natural resources.

Political directors also considered the overall situation in the Middle East and paid special attention to the current developments in Egypt and the upcoming activities of the EU concerning the crisis in that country.

Among other things, Deputy Minister Klisović spoke about energy diplomacy, stressing the importance of new energy routes for the supply of the Caspian gas to the improvement of energy security and independence of Europe. He also stressed the importance of making further progress in the development of the internal energy market and building energy infrastructure, including the construction of interconnectors to maximize the effects of the decision of the Shah Deniz II consortium on the supply route for the Caspian gas to Europe in the context of the construction of the Ionian-Adriatic gas pipeline.
