Increasingly important 3SI main topic of quadrilateral meeting
The Three Seas Initiative is an informal politically inspired platform for improving connectivity between twelve EU Member States situated between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas. The Croatian minister, who will host the quadrilateral meeting, said in New York that the initiative's importance had risen with the decision of Greece to join it at the recent 3SI summit meeting in Bucharest.
The initiative also offers opportunities for the talks on digitisation, energy diversification and boosting transport infrastructure against a backdrop of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, he added. Also, some other issues are also topical for the initiative such as illegal migrations, cyber attacks, and making use of energy supply for political purposes, he noted.
It is also important to strengthen and stabilise a wider region in a bid to lessen economic and social differences between the so-called old and new members of the EU, the Croatian minister emphasised. According to Grlić Radman, the USA is now showing more and more interest in this initiative. The quadrilateral meeting in New York will also discuss the developments since Russia abandoned the Black Sea grain deal.
Furthermore, the four ministers are expected to discuss possibilities of the European Union for giving a greenlight for the opening of Bosnia and Herzegovina's accession talks.
The Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister arrived in New York to attend the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Apart from the quadrilateral meeting which Croatia will chair, Grlić Radman will also attend meetings of the US-Adriatic Charter A5, the Regional Cooperation Council, the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and Central European Initiative (CEI) on the margins of the UN session.
