The inaugural plenary meeting of the Conference on the Future of Europe was held 19 June 2021 in Strasbourg, in a hybrid form

The inaugural plenary meeting of the Conference on the Future of Europe was held 19 June 2021 in Strasbourg, in a hybrid form. The Conference is a joint venture by the European Parliament, Council of the EU and European Commission that offers a new platform for a debate with the citizens on challenges, priorities and direction of the EU in the years ahead.

The plenary meeting brought together a wide array of representatives of citizens, member states’ governments, national parliaments, the European Parliament, European Commission, local and regional authorities, social partners and civil society.

Member states are represented at plenary meetings by 54 representatives, two from each member state. Participating on behalf of Croatia were Andreja Metelko-Zgombić, State Secretary for Europe at MFEA, and Helena Beus, Head of the Government’s Office for Cooperation with NGOs.

Addressing the meeting via video link, Metelko-Zgombić welcomed the central role of citizens within the Conference and called for their active engagement in the process. She also briefly reflected on Croatia’s current activities.

The plenary meeting reaffirmed the central role of citizens within the Conference. Through dialogue, deliberation and equal participation of various stakeholders, the youth and representatives of member states and EU institutions, best ideas will be sought, as well as concrete proposals and solutions for the shaping of our common, European future.

As part of the European citizens’ delegation, Croatian citizens were represented by Martin Mrša, Head of the Youth in the EU Organization. As part of the national parliaments’ delegation, the Croatian Parliament was represented by Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee Gari Cappelli, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee Domagoj Hajduković, Chairman of the Regional Development and EU Funds Committee Marko Pavić and Deputy Chair of the Agriculture Committee Ružica Vukovac.
