Forthcoming Croatian Diplomacy Day marked today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration

The forthcoming Croatian Diplomacy Day was marked today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration through a number of events

A reception for the diplomatic corps accredited to the Republic of Croatia, diplomats and distinguished guests from political and public life, was held this morning. It was hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković. Speaking to the guests, Minister Jandroković offered an overview of Croatia's current position in the international community and its foreign policy activities.

In the afternoon, Minister Gordan Jandroković, State Secretary for Political Affairs Bianca Matković and State Secretary for European Integration Željko Kuprešak held a press conference, where they informed the press on the activities connected with achieving Croatia's foreign policy goals. They used this opportunity to present details of the EU and NATO accession processes, Croatia's activities in the United Nations as a Security Council member and details regarding relations with countries of the Southeast Europe. The new organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, which is devised to meet the needs of Croatia's foreign policy priorities, was also mentioned.

Later on, a graduation ceremony was held for graduates of one-year course of professional diplomatic studies and two-month diplomatic course, courses organized and held by the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. With congratulations on their achievement, Minister Jandroković talked about the importance of continuing education in the process of creating a modern and flexible diplomacy, which can respond to the challenges of contemporary international relations.

Croatian Diplomacy Day traditionally marks the historic event of AD 879, when Pope John VIII sent Croatian Duke Branimir a letter informing him that he had blessed him and the entire Croatian people in Rome, recognizing his „earthly rule over the entire Croatia“. At that time, that was the highest form of international recognition, which, in today's view, made Croatia an internationally recognized country.
