Today at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs we had the pleasure the meeting the students of IV Grammar School, the Faculty of Political Science, VERN and Zagreb School of Economy and Management.

Foreign policy is not a topic deal with exclusively by diplomats and an inner circle of people. Quite the contrary, all citizens should be informed about it, especially the young, as it concerns all of us.

Apart from marking the Croatian Diplomacy Day, another piece of good news arrived from Germany today – the Bundesrat has unanimously ratified Croatia’s accession treaty, which means the ratification procedure is complete and we can now start making preparations for the celebration of the EU entry on I July.

The minister wished the students welcome, adding she hoped at least some of them would choose diplomacy as their future profession as we needed young, intelligent and educated people. Other official of the ministry, from deputy and assistant ministers to secretary general, also had the pleasure to talk with the students and answer their questions.

The students were taken on a tour of the building and saw its old as well as the new wing. The older, some would say more beautiful wing was originally an agrarian bank, hence the agrarian motifs on the first floor ceiling, while the new one had two multimedia halls and abstract paintings.

The celebration of the EU entry is a demanding task, which is why we have a situation room on the ground floor that our visitors have taken a peek in to what’s around the corner once they become diplomats.
