Foreign Minister Žužul received EC Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn

Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul received today, 25 November 2004 in Zagreb, EC Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn, who took this post in Brussels three days ago as a member of the new composition of the European Commission, headed by Jose Manuel Barros

Minister Žužul pointed out the Croatian Government’s firm dedication to full co-operation with the ICTY. Commissioner Rehn congratulated Croatia on the results achieved so far in acceding to the EU. The two exchanged opinions on what should be done in the period before the European Council’s session 17 December 2004, when the decision of the date of the start of the membership negotiations between Croatia and the EU is expected to reached. Commissioner Rehn promised to put forth his best effort so as to avoid any obstacles on Croatia’s road to the EU.

Minister Žužul informed Commissioner Rehn about the content of Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader’s visit to Belgrade, which constitutes an important contribution to the improvement of good neighbourly relations within Croatia’s regional co-operation. Applauding Croatia’s efforts towards achieving reconciliation in this part of Europe, Commissioner Rehn said that the European Commission is willing to continue intensively co-operating with the Croatian Government.
