Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman 13 November 2019 paid an official visit to the Holy See. The visit began with a brief audience with Pope Francis, after which Grlić Radman held talks with the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States, Paul Richard Gallagher.

Grlić Radman and Gallagher highlighted the traditionally excellent relations between Croatia and the Holy See, based on historical partnership and mutual understanding, as evidenced by reciprocal high-level visits in the last two years, which are expected to continue in 2020.

Grlić Radman informed Gallagher about the activities Croatia plans for its EU presidency. They also discussed Southeast European countries and the importance of their EU journey, which Croatia strongly supports. Special emphasis was attached to the status of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Gallagher expressed concern over the failure to reach a decision on launching EU entry talks with Albania and North Macedonia, underscoring support for Croatia’s efforts to keep the enlargement policy in the focus of the EU’s interests.
