(Hina) - Italy's shutting down of broadcasting transmitters that have caused interference in the reception of television and radio signals in Croatia is proof of friendly relations between the two countries, Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Davor Ivo Stier said on Thursday.

Italian authorities have started to shut down broadcasting transmitters that have caused interference in the reception of broadcasting signals on the Croatian side of the Adriatic, the Croatian public broadcasting corporation HRT said on Thursday, quoting the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

"We worked on this issue for a long time with other competent Croatian institutions, and the Italian Embassy in Zagreb was also very active," Stier told HRT's evening news programme.

"This settles the issue that was very important to us, and this is proof of good and friendly relations being developed with Italy," the minister said.

The Italian Ministry of Economic Development notified the ITU that it was ceasing broadcasting on 61 frequencies, including those that interfered in the reception of Croatian radio and television programmes.
