On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Swiss Confederation, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Davor Ivo Stier 30 January 2017 received on inaugural visit Swiss Ambassador to Croatia Stefan Estermann.

Both officials applauded the Swiss government’s decision from 16 December 2016 to ratify Protocol III, expanding the Agreement on the Free Movement of People to include Croatia. Its coming into force 1 January 2017 resolved all of the outstanding legal issues concerning Croatian nationals in Switzerland, who are now enjoying the EU status. Stier and Estermann agreed that the ratification of Protocol III would give additional impetus to the advancement of mutual relations and strengthening of ties between Croatia and Switzerland. They also welcomed the ratification of the Act confirming the Framework Agreement between the Swiss Federal Council and the Government of the Republic of Croatia on implementing the Swiss-Croatian cooperation programme aimed at reducing economic and social disparities, which granted Croatia as the youngest EU member state 45 million CHF.
