FM receives Holy See secretary for relations with states

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 12 October 2018 met with the Holy See Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

Gallagher is visiting Croatia at the invitation of the Croatian Bishops’ Conference on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Vatican-Croatia agreement on economic matters.

The talks highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Croatia and the Holy See founded on firm and lasting ties, confirming commitment to the further advancement of relations and cooperation in matter of mutual interest before international forums.

Pejčinović Burić and Gallagher talked about the need to preserve European prospects for all Southeast European countries, with special emphasis on Bosnia and Herzegovina and the status of the Croat people living there.

The two officials also talked about the canonisation of the Blessed Alojzije Stepinac.

The minister and the archbishop commended the holding of Days of the Croatian Glagolitic Script in the Vatican in November 2018. On 17 November in the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major, under the auspices of the Croatian Parliament and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, a plaque with a Glagolitic inscription will be set up. Along with the unveiling of the plaque, the Basilica will host a eucharistic celebration in Croatian Church Slavonic, held by the bishops of the Croatian Bishops’ Conference. Also planned are a scientific conference and an exhibition on Croatian liturgy through centuries titled “To God, In Your Own Language”.
