FM Pejčinović Burić meets with Romanian counterpart Melescanu

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 9 March 2018 received Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu.

The two officials expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations, underscored concurrence in regard to European and global matters, as well as cooperation within NATO. They also underlined readiness to carry on with the joint activities within the Council of the EU presiding troika (Romania, Finland, Croatia), affirming mutual support to joining the Schengen Area, Eurozone and OECD.

Pejčinović Burić and Melescanu stressed in particular the prospect of defence cooperation, both within NATO and PESCO, as well as cooperation between the two countries’ defence industries.

The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the status of Croatian minority in Romania and Romanian minority in Croatia, adding that national minorities formed a strong link between the two countries. They highlighted mutual support for the EU enlargement policy, stating that the European perspective of the Southeast European countries was a guarantee of their stability and progress.

At the end of the meeting, Pejčinović Burić and Melescanu signed a protocol on cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs, reconfirming the high level of political relations between the two countries.
