FM Pejčinović Burić attends UN General Assembly on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 24 April 2018 in New York attended a high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace.

The meeting was held on the initiative and invitation of the General Assembly President Miroslav Lajčák. Its goal was to assess efforts undertaken and opportunities to strengthen the UN’s work on peacebuilding and sustaining peace. The topics included preventing conflicts, strengthening operational and policy coherence, restructuring funding to peacebuilding activities, and strengthen partnerships among the UN and key stakeholders in the field. The meeting was an opportunity to gather representatives of national governments, civil society, private sector, international and regional organizations, and the academia. The participants included the king of Belgium, presidents of Ireland, Central African Republic and Gambia, the prime minister of Estonia and the foreign ministers of Germany, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Albania, Ghana, Norway, Turkey and Venezuela.

In her address to the General Assembly, Pejčinović Burić underlined Croatia’s readiness to transfer its experiences and know-how in post-conflict peacebuilding to other countries. Croatia has played that role as a member of the Peacebuilding Commission for several terms. She also highlighted Croatia’s bid for new membership in 2026-2027.
