FM Pejčinović Burić attends opening of UNGA 73

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić attended the official beginning of the 73rd session of the United Nations' General Assembly 25 September 2018. This year’s session is dedicated to the role of the UN role, global leadership and joint responsibility for peace, equal and sustainable societies.

At the invitation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Pejčinović Burić also attended a meeting on the "Action for Peacekeeping". The participants backed the Joint Statement on Support for UN Peacekeeping Operations.

As part of her itinerary, Pejčinović Burić met with Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The two officials discussed cooperation in curbing illegal migration. Pejčinović Burić also participated in a number of meetings as part of the Croatian delegation: with the Russian foreign minister, king of Jordan, president of the General Assembly, Turkish president, and Panama’s president and foreign minister. On that occasion, the foreign ministers signed a protocol on establishing political consultation mechanisms.

On the sidelines of UNGA 73, Pejčinović Burić attended the traditional Transatlantic Dinner, which discussed cooperation in seeking responses to global challenges.
