Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić 8 October 2018 in Barcelona attended the 3rd regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean. The Union for the Mediterranean is a framework for political, economic and cultural cooperation between the EU and 15 Mediterranean countries.

The forum was hosted by Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation Josep Borrell, and chaired by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the organisation, the participants took stock of the progress achieved to date, and discussed the way forward to build inclusive human and sustainable development. They confirmed the strategic link between Europe and the Mediterranean as a firm basis for progress in achieving the goals and objectives of the Union for the Mediterranean.

Pejčinović Burić said during the event that Croatia found it important that the Adriatic and the Mediterranean be protected against devastation. She also underlined facilitating trade on a broader Mediterranean area and seeking joint answers to the challenges of migration.

On the fringes of the forum, Pejčinović Burić held talks with the chairwoman of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, Elisabeth Guigou. They agreed on intensifying cooperation, notably during Croatia’s chairmanship of the Council of the EU.
