Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman 8 November 2019 in Rijeka attended a conference that presented the second pillar of Croatia’s EU presidency priorities under the banner of “Europe that Connects”.

Grlić Radman underlined that 2020 would be especially interesting for Rijeka as the next European Capital of Culture, which will make Rijeka and its citizens the ambassadors of Croatia before the European cultural public and visitors from across the globe.

“The implementation of this project that’s important for the city of Rijeka, the county and Croatia as a whole will expand the scope and variety of our cultural offer, strengthen the capacity of our cultural sector and its ties with other sectors, and increase the international visibility of Rijeka and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County,” the minister said.

Outlining the second pillar of priorities titled “Europe that Connects”, Grlić Radman underscored that the European Union’s progress hinged on the interconnectedness of its economic systems and the utilization of infrastructural and human potentials. “We will push for the additional development of transport, energy and digital infrastructure and connectivity. We will also encourage connecting among citizens, notably through education, culture and sports.”

Four Croatian cities have been chosen for a detailed presentation of each of the priorities: Rijeka, Split, Osijek and Varaždin, while in Zagreb Prime Minister Andrej Plenković presented the highlights and guidelines of Croatia’s EU presidency in general.

The aim of these conferences is to allow Croatian citizens and institutions to get a clear picture of the period and task ahead of us.
