Foreign and European Affairs Ministers Gordan Grlić Radman 21 November 2019 in Brussels attended a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) on trade. The ministers discussed the status of negotiations on WTO reform as well as preparations for the 12th WTO ministerial conference and its expected outcomes.

In his address, Grlić Radman reiterated strong support for the European Commission’s efforts to improve the multilateral trade system and adapt it to the current and future global trade challenges. He underscored the EU’s key role in this process.

“As the next EU presiding country, we would like to thank our Trio colleagues for the excellent cooperation during this year. We are looking forward to continued constructive work and close cooperation in the first half of 2020 in the area of trade,” Grlić Radman said.

The minister underscored that Croatia was assuming EU chairmanship in a challenging time for global trade – we are faced with a lot of uncertainties so we have to make sure the EU stays united and strong.   

He highlighted the slogan of our presidency: “A Strong Europe in a World Full of Challenges”, stressing that Croatia would work on maintaining the EU’s leading role in preserving the multilateral trade system. “We will give out best to promote our positive and ambitious bilateral trade agenda,” Grlić Radman concluded.

The Council also discussed the EU-US trade relations. The member states urged the European Commission to continue promoting the positive trade agenda.
