Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miro Kovač is attending the 52nd Munich Security Conference, held 12-14 February. Kovač told the press he was pleased with the ceasefire reached in Syria, describing it as a big step in the right direction. “The EU has to act globally, seek alliance with our friends in NATO and act on the spot to bring peace to people stricken by war, and in some way keep migrants and refugees where they are and help them there so that not all those who are seeking a better life come to the EU,” Kovač said. He underscored that we have to act smartly, quickly, as one within the EU, but also globally, together with our friends in NATO, adding that in regard to Syria we had to seek partnership with Russia. The foreign minister announced a series of talks with friends from the EU, Bavaria and delegations from other countries, adding that President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović was also attending the conference as head of the Croatian delegation. “I am looking forward to the talks, which include a meeting with the Finnish president. So, we will meet with both our colleagues from the north and from the south. I expect important talks for Croatia. We have to show we care about security in our neighbourhood and want to help strengthen the stability of central and southeast Europe,” Kovač said.
