EU-Croatia Advisory Committee meets

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs 18 June hosted the 13th meeting of the EU-Croatia Advisory Committee with the European Economic and Social Committee

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs 18 June hosted the 13th meeting of the EU-Croatia Advisory Committee with the European Economic and Social Committee. In attendance apart from the committee members were Assistant Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Hrvoje Marušić, Head of EU Delegation to Croatia Paul Vandoren, Head of the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs Igor Vidačak and Assistant Minister for Labour and Pension System Marko Krištof.

Marušić outlined the final phase of Croatia’s EU accession, adding that the process was demanding, but was always backed up by political consensus as well as support from social partners and the citizens themselves. “After entering the EU, the ministry will play a key role in coordinating European affairs, which is a prerequisite for participating in the articulation and active implementation of EU policies,” Marušić said, underlining the importance of continuing with the enlargement onto the Souteast European countries, a process in which Croatia will play a constructive role.

The advisory committee has been active since 2007 and is currently co-chaired by Ana Milićević Pezelj and Christoph Lechner. Its members are representatives of the EESC as well as representatives of employers, syndicates and civil society organizations from Croatia.

Once Croatia joins the EU, the committee will cease its activities, and Croatia will be represented in the EESC by nine elected members from the ranks of employers, syndicates and civil society.
