Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović 18 June in Skopje attended the meeting of the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) Partnership Commission

Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović 18 June in Skopje attended the meeting of the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) Partnership Commission. The meeting marked the Charter’s 10th anniversary and the end of Macedonian presidency during the first half of 2013.

The meeting discussed the current issues regarding the Euro-Atlantic process, the strengthening of cooperation within the Charter and cooperation between the region’s countries within the ISAF/Resolute Support operation after 2014.

Klisović commented on the current status of the NATO-Eastern European countries relations, expressing strong support for Macedonia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro-Atlantic integration. He applauded the agreement on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, inviting both sides to implement it and confirming Croatia’s continued participation in KFOR.

In regard to its engagement in Afghanistan, Klisović confirmed Croatia’s lasting commitment to NATO and the international community’s efforts to build stability in the county. In that context, he presented several concrete proposals for continuing the practical cooperation among the Charter members within a post-2014 NATO operation in Afghanistan.

The meeting reached a joint decision to extend the presidency over the Charter from six months to one year, so as to strengthen the continuity of implementing its projects, which will come into effect 1 January 2014. In the second half of 2013, the presidency over the Charter will be taken over by Montenegro.

For the purposes of strengthening cooperation in Southeast Europe, the Charter was founded in 2003 by Albania, Croatia, Macedonia and the EU, and was joined in 2008 by Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Kosovo and Serbia are participating in the Charter’s work as observers.
