Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Šimonović received today the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Catherine Lalumière, who is visiting Zagreb during the "Francophony week".
The war in Iraq was naturally the main topic of the discussion. Šimonović said that Croatia regrets that Iraqi disarmament was not achieved through peaceful means. Lalumière expressed her satisfaction with Croatia's position and said that in all her political life she has never seen a bigger crisis.
Regarding Croatia's application for a membership in the EU, Lalumière expressed her full support for Croatia's efforts to approach the EU, and added that she expect Croatia to set an example for other countries in the region to follow.
