Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and UNICEF Representative in Croatia Regina M. Castillo on Monday signed an agreement on donation to the UNICEF’s programme for procurement of generators for Ukrainian hospitals, schools and other facilities in need. Said agreement, worth one million euros, will provide up to 50 100-kW generators, ensuring the continuous work of key facilities.

Supporting Ukraine is the fifth in a series of projects the Ministry is cooperating on with UNICEF as part of official development and humanitarian assistance. The official development assistance is financed from the Croatian State Budget and is being used in line with the OECD regulations.

“Having joined the EU, Croatia is taking active part in the making and implementation of its development and humanitarian assistance. One of our foreign-policy priorities is providing said assistance abroad. Through development and humanitarian projects, Croatia is bilaterally and multilaterally – together with other EU member states and via the UN agencies – working to alleviate harsh living conditions. We are grateful to UNICEF for being a long-standing reliable partner with whom we jointly support those most vulnerable,” underlined Grlić Radman.

“Since the start of the war in Ukraine, UNICEF has been providing assistance and support to children and families, but the winter months are even more challenging, and the needs greater. It is always, and especially in the circumstances Ukraine is currently faced with, vital to ensure the continuity of key facilities such as hospitals and schools. This donation will directly contribute to that. We have been successfully cooperating with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on official development assistance projects since 2018, and have jointly helped children and families in Yemen, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt. I am pleased that UNICEF has been recognized as a reliable partner that will route international humanitarian assistance into important programmes and activities for boys and girls and their families worldwide,” Castillo said.
