Opening his presentation, the minister expressed satisfaction with the setting up of the meeting between Croatian and Japanese businessmen for the purposes of their drawing closer and exploring the economic potentials in order to enhance the two countries’ trade.

Japan can serve as an excellent example of goal realization through maintaining the vision and persistence, creativity, skill, and diligent work, said the minister. Giving an overview of the economic and political road that Croatia had had to travel since its independence, Minister Jandroković listed the measures being carried out to strengthen the country’s economic development, pointing out the service and tourist sector as areas with the most notable results. A proof of that is the number of the Japanese tourists that visited Croatia in 2009, totalling 166,000, which is close to the numbers seen by Italy and Spain.

From the Croatian perspective, said the minister, partnership between the Croatian and Japanese companies can contribute to the intensification of knowledge and technology exchange, as well as to joint investments. Describing Japan as one of the leading users of sea transport in the world, Minister Jandroković said that the Croatian ports could serve as a gateway for the markets of Central Europe, pointing out the modern road infrastructure as well. In regard to Japan’s investments, areas such as car industry, fishery, and organic food industry could be of interest to the Japanese companies, concluded the minister.

The Forum, which gathered 70 or so Japanese businessmen, also saw the participation of Deputy Director for International Relations as the Croatian Chamber of Economy Dunja Konjevod, HEP Management Board President Leo Begović, Estare Culto Chief Director Nikola Mikić, Kraš Management Board Vice-President Darko Radišić, and Sardina Chief Director Miroslav Bezmalinović.
