Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Gordan Jandroković participated in 121st meeting of CoE Committee of Ministers

In his address, Minister Jandroković thanked the Republic of Turkey for successfully chairing the Committee of Ministers in the past period, as well as the initiatives aimed at strengthening the political role of the Council of Europe and rendering it even more prominent in international relations

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković participated 11 May 2011 in Istanbul in the 121st meeting of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.

In his address, Minister Jandroković thanked the Republic of Turkey for successfully chairing the Committee of Ministers in the past period, as well as the initiatives aimed at strengthening the political role of the Council of Europe and rendering it even more prominent in international relations. He expressed Croatia’s support for the pending Ukrainian chairmanship and the implementation of the set priorities.

The minister pointed out that Croatia supported the efforts directed at reforming the Council of Europe, including the reformation of the European Court of Human Rights, in accordance with the challenges of the following decade.

He said that Croatia, as a country that was soon to become the 28th EU member, considered the European Convention on Human Rights an important document in ensuring and protecting human rights on the European continent.

He applauded the adoption of the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, open for signing precisely in Istanbul.

Regarding the neighbouring countries of South Eastern Europe currently undergoing transition, the minister said that the Council of Europe, as an organization with a rich experience in assisting the development of democratic institutions, played an important role in aiding those countries. In that regard, the neighbourhood policy enjoys Croatia’s full support.
>br> He also described as important the contribution of the group of Council of Europe dignitaries in creating conditions for harmonious living in the pluralist European societies.

Conclusively, the minister pointed out that Croatia, marking this year the 15th anniversary of its Council of Europe membership, remained dedicated to the further strengthening of institutions and values of the oldest pan-European organization.

Minister Jandroković also met with Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leancă.
