Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Šimonović received today the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with Eastern European Countries, led by Doris Pack. The Delegation is visiting Zagreb on the occasion of the 11th Meeting with the Subcommittee for Co-operation with the European Parliament of the Croatian Parliament Committee for Foreign Affairs.

Pack and members of the delegation expressed their support for Croatia's efforts in approaching the EU following the official application for membership, and said that Croatia had thus set an example for other countries in the region to follow. They expressed great interest for Croatia's fulfilment of political terms and conditions, especially co-operation with the Hague Tribunal and with other countries in the region.

Šimonović informed the Delegation about Croatia's position on the war in Iraq, expressing his regrets that the disarmament was not achieved by political means. He further expressed Croatia's willingness to assist in the post-war reconstruction of Iraq and in establishing democracy and the rule of law.
