Croatian-Turkmen deputy FMs hold political consultations

Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović 3 February in Ashgabat held political consultations with Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev

Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović 3 February in Ashgabat held political consultations with Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev. The two officials discussed bilateral cooperation and agreed that the following bilateral agreements should be signed as soon as possible – the air traffic agreement, the agreement on stimulating and mutual protection of investments, and the agreement on cooperation in education and science. Visas for holders of diplomatic or official passports are also expected to be cancelled soon. Klisović and Hajiyev also talked about various matters concerning economic cooperation and the appearance of some of Croatia’s most prominent companies on the Turkmen market.

On February 4, a meeting of the two countries’ Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation was held, chaired from the Croatian side by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Branko Grčić and saw the attendance of representatives from the sectors of foreign affairs, entrepreneurship and crafts, maritime affairs, science, education, sports, culture and agriculture. The meeting confirmed that a marked progress had been made in terms of economic cooperation since the Commission’s first meeting in March 2014. The Turkmen side expressed strong interest in the non-economic areas such as science, education, sports and culture, where Turkmenistan sees Croatia as a desirable partner for cooperation as well as for the transfer of know-how and experiences.

On Thursday February 5 an economic forum will be organized, presenting numerous Croatian companies, some of which have already applied for tenders or are conducting talks, backed by the Croatian government and diplomacy, about business ventures in Turkmenistan.
