Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Žužul met today, 27 May 2004, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the French Foreign Affairs Ministry’s European Department Director Jean-Francois Terral, who came on a consultation visit to Croatia on the invitation from State Secretary at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hido Biščević
Director Terral handed Minister Žužul the letter from French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier and announced his pending visit to Croatia. Žužul and Terral agreed that there are no open issues between Croatia and France, and that there are real possibilities of reaching the highest level of relations between the two countries. Director Terral expressed his satisfaction with Croatia’s progress in approaching the EU, and stressed its importance as a symbol and a proof that the region is a whole has a European perspective. Terral also said that it is important to offer strong support to Croatia for other countries in the region. Žužul pointed out that Croatia’s strategy of joining NATO and EU remains unchanged, emphasising the importance of co-operating with the Hague Tribunal and government’s quality and constructive relation towards minorities.
In talks with the Croatian officials opinions about the situation in the region were exchanged. The Croatian side stressed its readiness to implement the regional policy detailed at Zagreb and Thessaloniki summit, and contribute to stabilising the region and the development of democratic processes, so as to contribute to the affirmation of the EU policy. Croatia is also capable of sharing its experiences with other countries in the region and develop a European orientation.
