Croatian delegation led by Vice Premier Ante Simonić is participating at the 59th Session of the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva that began 17 March. The session of the Commission, of which Croatia is a full member, is the most important annual session on human rights in the world.

Vice Premier Simonić gave a presentation yesterday (18 March) confirming Croatia's openness towards international mechanisms for human rights. Simonić said that the world peace and security have to be based on human rights that should not be sacrificed in war against terrorism.

Simonić also said that in the past year Croatia made a significant progress in protecting and promoting human rights on an institutional and legislative level, emphasising the passing of the constitutional law on minority rights, return of refugees and displaced persons, and confirming Croatia's dedication and consistency in protecting and promoting human rights while observing the highest modern standards.
