Croatia, U.S. hold Strategic Dialogue

The governments of the United States and Croatia held a Strategic Dialogue on 17 March 2022 at the U.S. Department of State in Washington.
 
The Dialogue was opened by MFEA Political Affairs Director-General Petar Mihatov and the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Dereck J. Hogan. Participating in the Dialogue were diplomatic and relevant representatives from the sectors of economy, science and education, energy, finance, internal affairs and defence.
 
Both parties underscored satisfaction with the advancement of U.S.-Croatia relations through this new framework with six main pillars of cooperation: global affairs, defence and security, regional cooperation, energy and climate change, trade and investment, as well as networking. The Strategic Dialogue will enable regular exchange of view on key topics, both bilateral and multilateral, as well as easier defining of future cooperation areas.
 
The participants underlined the importance of transatlantic unity and coordination in the context of the security situation in Europe, i.e. the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As regards regional cooperation, both parties expressed desire to continue with the joint engagement in the Western Balkans aimed at achieving long-term stability and security as well as facilitating the Euro-Atlantic integration of the region’s countries. Both parties stressed commitment to the preservation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s stability and territorial unity, as well as the implementation of electoral and constitutional reforms to eliminate electoral discrimination and instate equality for all three constituent peoples.

Croatia and the U.S. also exchanged views on the additional strengthening of bilateral defence security and cooperation in defining NATO’s new Strategic Concept. In addition, the parties discussed the prospects of joint activities in the areas of energy, climate change, trade, science and education.
