Croatia supported Serbia and Montenegro's membership in the Council of Europe...

Permanent Croatian Representative to the Council of Europe, Ambassador Neven Madey, said at the Conference of the Committee of Ministers that Croatia supported Serbia and Montenegro's membership in the Council of Europe.

Ambassador Madey said that the two states are faced with the choice of either siding with democracy, rule of law and human rights, or giving in to nationalist forces. With the intention of supporting democratic forces and strengthening the European orientation of the new Government in Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia along with the other Member States is willing to support co-operation with the Council of Europe and through intensive bilateral relations.

The Committee of Ministers adopted today 26 March the Resolution on Serbia and Montenegro's membership in the Council of Europe as the 45th Member State, determining its commitments and mechanisms for monitoring their implementation.
